When working on your wedding/honeymoon budget, what comes to mind first and how do you decide how much you will allow for each item? Oh my, what dress to pick, the venue, the cake.... so many decisions.
When do you start to think about the honeymoon?
Did you know the best values book at least a year in advance? My husband and I are planning our 50th Wedding Anniversary in June and have had our resort booked for 2 years. Why? Because the resort only has two rooms large enough for our family and it is booked, now, though all of 2018 and most of 2019. Every part of your wedding and honeymoon planning is important, but start planning early and don't leave the honeymoon as an afterthought.
Choose your favorite spot and get your date locked in.
A small deposit will hold your date and is fully refundable up until final payment, which is usually approximately 60 days before travel. Now, that doesn't mean you can't change your mind on the length of stay, category of room or any other details, but you know you are "in", no one is taking your spot. Working with a travel professional is no cost to you and takes so much of the weight off your shoulders.
What do honeymooners want this year?
Many couples yearn for relaxation and natural beauty. Others want lots of activities; at least until they get there and they realize what the last year has taken out of them. Then they are perfectly happy to sit on the beach watching the waves break with a drink in their hand.
If you do decide that you want a honeymoon that requires a long distance travel, wait a few days after the wedding to leave on your honeymoon to decompress and "chill." Then take off on your extended trip to the wine country of Europe or on safari in South Africa.
If you are dreaming of the over-the-water bungalows of Bora Bora, Tahiti or the Maldives of Sri Lanka, consider the Love Nest's at Sandals in the Caribbean. None of these honeymoons are inexpensive, but at least at Sandals you have a short flight
and ready to party in hours rather than a day or more. This is where value is important. Save money on the airfare and spend it on the resort.
If you are looking for a little more adventure and would rather hike volcanoes and are thinking Oahu, Hawaii, why not a much shorter trip to the island of St. Lucia and hike the Pitons instead? You will find the same lush rain forests and plenty to do.
The world is yours, your honeymoon is a time to spend with your lover, don't forget to give it the consideration it deserves. With travel, time is your friend. The more time you give yourselves, the better your experience.
